Columbia Business School has launched the Program for Financial Studies, which supports curricular initiatives, research, and events in the field of financial studies. Laurie Simon Hodrick, the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Business, is leading the program.
"We are bringing together our world-class faculty members, who approach financial studies from multiple disciplines, with the School’s talented student body, active alumni community, and engaged external constituencies through a spectrum of initiatives that bridge the theory and practice of finance," Hodrick says.
One such initiative is the No Free Lunch Seminar. Business School students can attend an informal lunch during which faculty members each present a 15 to 20-minute talk on their current research. These seminars will be videotaped and posted on the program’s website alongside links to the relevant research, giving alumni easy access to some of the important and timely research being done by the School’s professors. The program is supported by a five-member academic advisory board and an executive advisory board made up of leaders in the financial community. Working closely with faculty members and the dean, members of the executive board will meet twice a year to review activities and consider new opportunities to enhance the program. Alumni are invited to engage with the program by serving as guest speakers, sponsoring cases, providing job opportunities, and more.
