After leaving Steeltown Records to sign with Motown Records in December 1968, "I Want You Back" catapulted the Jackson 5 straight to the top of the charts. The hit single was their first number 1 hit worldwide. Then, in 1999, the song won a "token Grammy" for its lyrics, written by Freddie Perren, Deke Richards, Alphonzo Mizell, and Berry Gordy.
