Margaret Chan is a Certified Executive Coach who works with professionals seeking career advice, making career transitions, and re-entering the workplace after career breaks. Her experience includes guiding self-assessment; developing career and networking strategies; targeting careers; creating resumes and career narratives/positioning; preparing for interviews; and supporting her clients to build confidence throughout the process. 

She had a 25-year career in executive search advising professionals making career transitions. She spent 18 years at Spencer Stuart and Korn Ferry, global executive search firms, where she was a trusted advisor to hiring executives at Fortune 500, mid-size, startup, and nonprofit organizations. She advised companies on hiring strategies and knows firsthand the critical factors in hiring decisions. She has assessed over 3,500 executives as they positioned themselves for their next career opportunity. She has led webinars on strategies for alumni re-entering the workplace after career breaks, at business schools, including Columbia, University of Chicago. and UCLA. She is an Executive Coach for The Leadership Lab at Columbia Business School where she coaches MBA and EMBA students. In addition, she is a recommended coach for alumni of top tier business schools, including Wharton, Stanford, Cornell, and University of Chicago.

Margaret also works with clients who want to become stronger and more effective leaders by leveraging their strengths and addressing their leadership gaps. She partners with clients to build coaching plans to increase their self-awareness, gain insight, and practice new behaviors. Her clients have focused on a range of leadership areas, including increasing their influence, building stronger relationships, using more strategic communications, demonstrating more confidence and executive presence, and developing more collaborative skills. 

She has broad industry (financial services, private equity, insurance, consumer products, retail, media, technology, consulting and nonprofit) and functional experience (board directorship, general management/business heads, finance, investments, strategy, marketing, communications, sales, operations, consulting, and nonprofit development). 

Margaret’s clients appreciate that her strategic and practical approach leads to success.  Her warmth and sense of humor give her clients the confidence to address key issues.

She had an earlier marketing career at General Foods, Citibank, and Oppenheimer Management.  Margaret earned her Executive Coaching Certification at the highest level from Columbia University, an MBA from The Kellogg School at Northwestern University, and a BS with honors from New York University.  She is also certified by the International Coach Federation and in Hogan Assessments, and is experienced with 360 assessments. She serves as a board member for the West Side YMCA.  She and her husband live in New York City with their two children.
