Professor Linda Green and Assistant Professor Pierre Azoulay were recently honored by two internationally renowned organizations for their individual studies, which have provided practical applications in the healthcare and public sectors. Professor Green was elected an INFORMS Fellow while Assistant Professor Azoulay was one of the recipients of the prestigious Sloan Industries Studies Fellowships. A member of the Decision, Risk and Operations Division, Green’s work has consistently linked research issues with practical solutions. Her most recent work delves into the healthcare arena, focusing on emergency-room wait times and providing recommendations for shortening wait times. She is also known for earlier studies that led to the development of a widely used system for allocating the patrol cars needed to respond to 911 calls. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation recognized Azoulay with the newly established Sloan Industries Studies Fellowship, which provides support and recognition to faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional talent and promise in the early stages of their careers. Azoulay was selected for the award in part for his use of both qualitative and quantitative approaches to studying the outsourcing of clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry. Funds from the fellowship will allow Azoulay to investigate the relationship between capital budgeting and R&D productivity.
