On April 15, nearly 100 people convened in Midtown to celebrate a $5.25 million donation to Columbia Business School’s Manhattanville facilities. The transformative gift, made by Morgan Stanley and alumni and friends at the firm, will create a Morgan Stanley Suite in each of Columbia Business School’s two new Manhattanville buildings. Both suites will include a 74-seat classroom with multiple adjoining study rooms. The gift represents the largest corporate contribution to the Manhattanville Campus to date. The event was hosted at Morgan Stanley’s headquarters by Michael Boublik ’90, chairman of Mergers and Acquisitions, Daniel Simkowitz ’91, co-head, Global Capital Markets, and Nelson Walsh ’90, vice chairman, Investment Banking. The event also included special remarks by Professor Meyer Feldberg ’65, senior advisor at Morgan Stanley and former dean of the School.“If you had to describe, in one word, a strategic plus for a school like Columbia, it’s connections,” Dean Glenn Hubbard said during the event. “We have more connections with the world around us than any of our peers — such as with firms like Morgan Stanley — and we deliver that network regularly in our classrooms, in our research centers, and in the experiences of students, faculty, alumni, and staff. This is key for us.”Morgan Stanley is home to 245 Columbia Business School alumni worldwide. James Gorman ’87, chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley, Brad Evans ’70, managing director and a vice chairman of the firm’s investment banking department, and Professor Meyer Feldberg are all members of the School’s Board of Overseers.“Please join me in thanking Morgan Stanley and our alumni and friends at the firm for this meaningful gift,” Dean Hubbard said. “This tremendous generosity will help us in our mission to revolutionize how we approach business education, creating spaces that engender a sense of community and encourage collaboration and communication.”The Manhattanville facilities will comprise 468,000 square feet — more than doubling the School’s current space — and will feature flexible spaces to facilitate cross-disciplinary interaction, office-style discussion, and variable class sizes.Learn more about the Manhattanville campus, including giving opportunities, by clicking here.
