Tory Higgins, the Stanley Schachter Professor of Psychology, has been named a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an international honorary society dedicated to scholarship and research. Higgins, who also serves as a professor of management at the School, is an expert on motivational models of performance, judgment and decision making. “It gives me great pleasure to welcome these outstanding leaders in their fields to the academy,” said Patricia Meyer Spacks, academy president. “Fellows are selected through a highly competitive process that recognizes individuals who have made preeminent contributions to their disciplines and to society at large.” More than 170 Nobel laureates and 50 Pulitzer Prize winners are members of the academy, which announced the election of 175 new fellows and 20 new foreign honorary members on April 24. An independent policy research center, the academy will welcome the new class at its annual induction ceremony on October 7 in Cambridge, Mass.
