Alumni Rutger Bruining (’08) , investment manager, Candover, and Jacob Polny (’08), vice president, TPG - both students in Columbia Business School’s Masterclass in Private Equity in Spring 2008 - found themselves using their experience in real life as they were at opposite sides of Europe’s largest announced LBO year to date. It was announced in July 2010 that Candover sold Ontex to TPG and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners.
The Masterclass in Private Equity was taught by Board of Overseers member Arnold Chavkin (’77) and Laura B. Resnikoff (’76) and focused in depth on the Hertz transaction.
Chavkin called the Ontex deal a “nice execution for both sides in a tough market” and sent his congratulations to both parties saying it was ”a great way to start long careers...you will always remember your first large deal.”
