President Lee C. Bollinger invites students to nominate faculty members for the 11th annual Presidential Teaching Awards, a University-wide honor that recognizes Columbia’s outstanding professors. President Bollinger will confer five awards, each of which carries a prize of $5,000, at the Commencement Exercises in May.
To date, the School has been honored with four winners: Professor John Donaldson, the Mario J. Gabelli Professor of Finance (2001); Professor Bruce Greenwald, the Robert Heilbrunn Professor of Finance and Asset Management (2000); Professor Tory Higgins of the Management Division (2004); and Professor Laurie Hodrick of the Finance and Economics Division (2006). A list of all the previous award recipients may be found on the University’s Web site.
While the awards are ordinarily conferred on individuals, they may also be given to groups of faculty members who have made collective contributions to Columbia’s educational offerings. Both full-and part-time Columbia faculty members are eligible.
Students may submit multiple nominees, and they may also renominate candidates proposed in previous years who did not receive an award. For each of your nominees, please provide a detailed description of the faculty member’s teaching accomplishments.
Nominations can be sent via the University’s Web site or by letter to the Teaching Awards Committee, care of the Office of the Senior Vice Provost, 310 Low Library, Mail Code 4326. The deadline for nominations is January 31.
