The Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate warmly welcomes Professor Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh to Columbia Business School and looks forward to introducing him and his pioneering research to the Center’s real estate community.
Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh is the Earle W. Kazis and Benjamin Schore Professor of Real Estate and Professor of Finance at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Columbia in July 2018, for the past 15 years, he was a finance professor at NYU Stern School of Business, as well as the director of the Stern Center for Real Estate Finance Research for the past 6 years. His research lies in the intersection of housing, asset pricing, and macroeconomics. One strand of his work studies how financial market liberalization in the mortgage market relaxed households’ down payment constraints, and how that affected the macro-economy, and the prices of stocks and bonds. In this area he has also worked on regional housing prices, households’ mortgage choice, commercial real estate price formation, the impact of foreign buyers on the housing market, and mortgage market design. Full biography.
Professor Van Nieuwerburgh presented his recent working paper titled “Financing the War on Cancer,” last week at the 41st annual National Bureau of Economic Research Summer Institute in Boston, which has been featured in further detail in Columbia Business School’s Ideas at Work. A more complete agenda of his research and published work can be found on his website.
He will be working closely with the Milstein Center and the MBA Real Estate Program both in and out of the classroom, so please join us in welcoming Stijn to the Columbia real estate community!
