Leading marketing practitioners and experts gathered on campus last week for the 2006 Innovative Marketing Conference, a series of cutting-edge panels and discussions hosted by the School’s Center on Global Brand Leadership and Corante, a media company that specializes in blogs on science, technology and business.

The conference, held from June 8 to June 9, focused on innovation and the future of marketing. Panelists and commentators included Russ Klein, chief marketing officer of Burger King; Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist; Shawn Gold, senior vice president and head of marketing and content of MySpace.com; and Bernd Schmitt, the center’s executive director and professor of marketing at Columbia Business School.

Chief marketing officers from a wide range of industries discussed challenges in an attention-scarce economy as well as best practices for new marketing models. Participants also explored search marketing, mobile and “buzz” marketing and the role of consumer-generated media.

The Center on Global Brand Leadership is a partnership of business schools and a leading forum on branding issues for researchers and executives worldwide. The center brings together brand leaders from the world’s top corporations, business schools and brand consultancies to find solutions to the challenges of branding and innovation.
