Echoing Green, a nonprofit organization that invests in early-stage social entrepreneurial initiatives, has awarded David del Ser ’08 a 2009 Echoing Green Fellowship.

Each year, the organization grants seed funding, technical assistance and consulting support to a select group of emerging social entrepreneurs in areas such as community and economic development, health and education.

Del Ser was recognized for his for-profit social venture Frogtek, which develops accounting and inventory management applications for mobile phones. The software is designed to provide shopkeepers in the developing world with simple tools to improve their business operations. Del Ser hatched the idea for Frogtek while he was a student at Columbia Business School, in partnership with Mark Pedersen ’07.

During his time at Columbia, Del Ser also helped launch Microlumbia, a student-run investment fund focused on microfinance, and received the 2008 Nathan Gantcher Award in Social Enterprise. Frogtek is scheduled to begin formal operations in Bogota, Colombia this summer.
