Last fall the Media Management Association (MMA) reached out to Columbia Business School alumni working in media, and invited them to join the 2010-2011 Executive Career Mentoring Program.

In less than a week, nearly 60 alumni agreed to participate, once again showing the strength of the Columbia Business School community. Of the 60 mentors, roughly one-third were new to the program, while two-thirds had participated in the program last year. Over 40 different companies were represented, including Columbia Business School, Disney, Facebook, HBO, MTV, Univision, Clear Channel, Dow Jones, ESPN, McGraw-Hill, NBC Universal and Time Inc.

Mentors also worked in a wide range of functional roles, including business development, distribution, finance, marketing, sales, social media and strategy. Since many business school students interested in media are career switchers, the Executive Career Mentoring Program helps participants plan their career paths, focusing on both short-term and long-term functional and industry targets.

Although each mentor agreed to a one hour commitment to share their expertise, many have continued to provide on-going advice to their mentees. The program will continue throughout the rest of the semester and will include at least one on-campus event to provide additional opportunities for mentors and mentees to engage and learn from one another.

Please contact the MMA if you are interested in this program for the fall 2011-12 academic year.
