DRO PhD student Zhe Liu was a Finalist in the 2018 George Nicholson Student Paper Competition for a paper titled “Synthesis and Generalization of Structural Results in Inventory Management: A Generalized Convexity Property”, under the supervision of Prof. Awi Federgruen.

The paper studies optimal inventory control policies under the simultaneous presence of major practical challenges. By identifying a new type of generalized convexity property, the paper synthesizes most existing structural results in inventory management into a unified framework.

The George Nicholson student paper competition is held each year at the INFORMS annual conference to identify and honor outstanding papers written by a student in the field of operations research and the management sciences.
