On Friday, March 4th, 2016, the Real Estate Association (REA) and members of the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate toured Time Warner Center and met with Related Companies. The group first explored The Shops at Columbus Circle, the retail component of Time Warner Center, led by Related Companies’ Lauren Hammer and Lauren Hunt. They discussed the site acquisition process, the current state of the property, and the significant positive impact the development has had on the neighborhood.

In addition to the aforementioned retail component, Time Warner Center offerings include Michelin star restaurants, luxury condominiums, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, office space, and the "Jazz at Lincoln Center" entertainment venue. Related emphasized the importance of "Jazz at Lincoln Center" to the success of the project as a whole. The afternoon continued at Related Companies’ corporate headquarters, also located at Time Warner Center, where the REA met with Vice President Frank Monterisi.

Frank discussed his personal and professional experiences including his time in the Marines and working in development for Related Companies post–business school. He graciously answered students’ questions and offered insight into the state of the market and Related’s vision for the future.

On behalf of Columbia Business School’s Real Estate Association, we would like to thank Related Companies for the tour of one of their trademark mixed-use projects. Specifically, we would like to express our appreciation to Lauren Hammer, Lauren Hunt, and Frank Monterisi for their time, expertise, and hospitality. Knute Kvarekvaal ’16 is the VP of Site Tours for the Real Estate Association at Columbia Business School. He is a second-year student focusing on real estate investment. Knute will be returning to Norges Bank Real Estate Management in New York after graduation. Brian Hwang ’17 is the AVP of Site Tours for the Real Estate Association at Columbia Business School.
