Created in 1966 by Pedro Barrié de la Maza, who was closely linked to Banco Pastor. The initial endowment was followed by subsequent donations made by his sister Gertrudis Barrié and his widow, Carmela Arias y Díaz de Rábago, Countess of Fenosa who donated all of her fortune to the Foundation in 1981. The foundation offers scholarships to study postgraduate courses abroad (Europe, USA and Asia). Candidates must be Spanish citizens.
