Classes that begin at 8:15 a.m. — unpopular among many students and faculty members — will soon be no more, the faculty executive committee announced March 30.

The committee announced a new daily schedule that will take effect in the fall. Morning classes will begin at 9 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday club times will take place between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. Evening classes will be more standardized than they are now, with most sessions beginning at 5:45 or 7:15.

Administrators initiated the scheduling change in response to student and faculty concerns about the early hour of several courses and the inconvenience of current club times (1:30 to 3 p.m.), which are problematic for guests who visit campus during their lunch break.

"The new schedule will allow us to more fully utilize our space," says Kathleen Swan, assistant dean of student and academic affairs, "and both the first morning class session and afternoon club times will be at more useful times for students, faculty members and guests."
