On November 18, 2016, Columbia Business School’s Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics will host its annual conference, titled “Restoring Trust: New Realities and New Possibilities for Business Leadership,” featuring executives from US Soccer, Coach Inc., and Duke Energy among many others. This year’s theme focuses on how leaders view trust in the modern business world and how they integrate fairness and value into their daily roles in their respective industries.

On Veteran’s Day, November 11, Columbia Business School will host an event for active duty military and veterans interested in pursuing an MBA, bringing together prospective student veterans with current student veterans. The event will spotlight the mentorship and community provided by The Military in Business Association (MIBA), the veteran community on campus for Columbia Business School students.

To kick off Startup Week, a four-day celebration of entrepreneurship at Columbia Business School, The Eugene Lang Center for Entrepreneurship announced the first winners of the newly established entrepreneurial research fellowship awards for PhD students. Each academic year, the Lang Center will award up to four students with a fellowship of $5,000. This year’s fellows will present their research publicly at the Entrepreneurial Research Showcase event in the spring of 2018.

Sidney and Helaine Lerner have generously endowed the new Lerner Value Adjuncts Fund, which will support the program of adjunct professors who teach Applied Value Investing at the School.

Top Fortune 500 companies participating in the event include: Microsoft, Propel, IBM, Vizalytics Technology, and Neighborly, among others.

To help advance causes like childhood education and waste management, four entrepreneurs received $25,000 for their ventures in the latest round of funding from the Tamer Fund for Social Ventures. In addition to funding, these entrepreneurs also gain access to the social enterprise resources the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School provides.

Dean Glenn Hubbard of Columbia Business School announced that The Chazen Institute of International Business has been renamed the Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business, and Jerome Chazen has donated $10 million for its continued development.

When Manal Kahi moved to New York City to attend the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, she immediately set out to stock her apartment with her favorite staple: hummus.

Columbia Business School announced the launch of its first student-led value investing portfolio, the 5x5x5 Student Value Investment Fund. The innovative fund, named for its unique structure, affords students the invaluable opportunity to connect value-oriented investment theories to real-world practice as they apply their classroom learning to the management of this fund. The fund was made possible by a generous gift from Thomas Russo, a partner at Gardner Russo & Gardner LLC.
