Donors Make Giving Day 2013 a Success

On October 23, more than 920 Columbia Business School alumni, friends, students, and faculty and staff members took part in the second annual Columbia University Giving Day, helping the Business School raise more than $575,000 in gifts and University-wide Challenge Match funds.

On October 23, more than 920 Columbia Business School alumni, friends, students, and faculty and staff members took part in the second annual Columbia University Giving Day, helping the Business School raise more than $575,000 in gifts and University-wide Challenge Match funds.The donations received on Giving Day will have an immediate impact on several key initiatives and programs at the School, including student financial aid, the Columbia Business Lab, faculty research, the Social Enterprise Program, the Behavioral Research Lab, and Columbia CaseWorks. This year, the School saw a 55 percent increase in giving and a 41 percent increase in donor participation over Giving Day 2012.Graduates from 1930 to 1959 won the School’s Decade Challenge for percentage of participation among the alumni in their group; to recognize their generosity, the School will feature the alumni as sponsors of a study break for MBA students during final exams. Also, the School recognized Kurt Feuerman ’82 as one of eight alumni from across the University who generously sponsored this year’s Challenge Match.The School’s totals were a key component of the larger University’s success — $7.8 million was raised for Columbia and its programs, with contributions coming from all 50 US states and 53 countries.
