The School has joined forces with Columbia University Press to launch its own publishing imprint, Columbia Business School Publishing. The imprint will appear on works of practical importance in finance, economics and other areas of business scholarship. “The imprint will serve as a dedicated outlet for thought leadership in business and economics, beginning with our own faculty’s work in such fields as strategic thinking, microfinance and corporate social responsibility,” said Dean Glenn Hubbard. The first book published under the new imprint will be Strategic Intuition: The Creative Spark in Human Achievement by William Duggan, an associate professor of management. The book describes how strategic intuition, which encompasses business strategy, Asian philosophy and cognitive psychology, can be applied to various professions. The first chapter of the book and a podcast of an interview with the author are available on the CU Press Web site. The book will be available in November. CU Press will publish three other titles in 2007 under the new imprint: More Than You Know: Finding Financial Wisdom in Unconventional Places (updated and expanded) by Michael J. Mauboussin, an adjunct professor in the Finance and Economics Division — its first edition was named best business book by BusinessWeek and best economics book by Strategy+Business; Sustaining India’s Growth Miracle, edited by Charles W. Calomiris, the Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions; and Corporate Risk Management, edited by Donald H. Chew. The imprint’s roster in 2008 includes a new book by Geoffrey Heal, the Paul Garrett Professor of Public Policy and Business Responsibility, on corporate social responsibility. With nearly 115 years of continuous publishing activities, CU Press is the fourth-oldest university press in America. Notable highlights in its history include the publication of the Columbia Encyclopedia in 1935, the acquisition of the Columbia Granger’s Index to Poetry in 1945 and, over the years, the publication of numerous eminent thinkers, including Theodor Adorno, Richard Bulliet, Niles Eldridge, John Lewis Gaddis, Todd Gitlin, Mikhail Gorbachev, Roald Hoffman, Gareth Stedman Jones, Thomas Hunt Morgan, John Rawls, Olivier Roy, George Rupp, Jeffrey Sachs, Joseph Stiglitz and Kenneth Waltz.
