With a view overlooking Central Park from the 42nd floor of Le Parker Meridien hotel in midtown, Dean Glenn Hubbard met with more than 80 distinguished alumni and faculty members for the biennial Professorship Celebration. The event took place on April 13, 2010, and brought together chair-endowing alumni with chaired faculty members.This year, Arthur J. Samberg ’67, a member of the Board of Overseers, was honored for his donation of $25 million, which has endowed 13 new professorships to date. The gift, given in 2006, funded new positions across all the School’s academic divisions through a matching grant program.The event was also attended by two individuals who recently had chairs named in their honor: Stefan Robock, the R. D. Calkins Professor Emeritus of International Business, and Hughie E. Mills, who served as director of community relations and as director of financial aid at the School. Daniel Wolfenzon, who joined Columbia Business School in 2008 and is the Stefan H. Robock Professor of Finance and Economics, gave remarks describing the importance of endowed chairs and thanking the donors who were present. Other guests included former dean of the School and Board of Overseers member Meyer Feldberg ’65 and Board of Overseers members Jerome Chazen ’50, Mario Gabelli ’67, Nathan Gantcher ’64 and Benjamin Rosen ’61. The School’s newest board member, Bernard Gray ’74, who was elected last month, was also in attendance.
