Last week, the Dean’s Office recognized three Columbia Business School faculty members with 2015 Dean’s Prizes for Teaching Excellence in MBA elective courses.

Those awarded prizes were Clifford S. Cramer, Director of the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Management Program and Adjunct Professor; Sharon P. Katz, Associate Professor in the Accounting Division; and Malia F. Mason, Gantcher Associate Professor of Business. Professor Cramer, who joined Columbia Business School in 2006, was recognized for his teaching of the courses Healthcare Investment and Entrepreneurship, and Strategy and Competition in Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology.

Professor Katz, who joined Columbia in 2010, received the award for his teaching of Financial Statement Analysis and Evaluation. Professor Mason won the award for her teaching of Managerial Negotiations. Professor Mason joined Columbia in 2007 and teaches in the Management Division.

“Please join me in congratulating these three faculty members on their extraordinary work,” said Mark Broadie, Carson Family Professor of Business and Vice Dean of Curriculum and Instruction. “Their instruction has gone above and beyond, and they consistently add value for their students. The School is proud to recognize their achievements.”

The Dean’s Prizes for Teaching Excellence were established by a gift from George Wiegers ’61, who is the cofounder of Wiegers Capital Partners. The prizes are awarded for teaching excellence in three categories — core courses, elective courses, and by members of the adjunct faculty — and honor up to two professors in each category annually. The Dean’s Office also occasionally supplements the prizes to celebrate additional winners for their superlative performances in the classroom. Recipients are selected following recommendations based on student feedback, including course evaluations.
