Michael Malone has been appointed associate dean for the MBA Program at Columbia Business School, effective August 15.
In this role, Malone will be focused on the administration of the MBA and Executive MBA programs, including management of the MBA Office of Student Affairs, the Executive MBA Program, and Admissions. Malone is returning to Columbia Business School from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, where he was managing director of the Career Management Center. There, he provided career development services for students and alumni across all programs.
Prior to that, Malone served as the director of career education and advising in Columbia Business School’s Career Management Center, where he was integrally involved in the launch of the Career Coaching Program. In 2008, the Graduate Business Association awarded Malone the Lear Award for his dedication to student service.
“We are delighted to welcome Michael back to Columbia Business School in this new capacity,” Dean Glenn Hubbard said. “He brings with him extraordinary experience of innovative leadership in higher education and a firm commitment to creating positive student experiences.”
In his career, Malone has also served as class dean for academic advising at Columbia University and he has held positions in admissions, residential life, and career services at Stevens Institute of Technology, American University, and the University of California at Berkeley. Malone earned his master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Malone replaces Amir Ziv, who served as vice dean and Samberg faculty director from 2005–13. Ziv is returning to the faculty to resume his focus on research and teaching. Dean Hubbard thanked Ziv for his contributions to the School as vice dean and as a teacher.
“I look forward to working with Amir as a faculty member,” he said. “We will need movers to lift all of Amir’s teaching awards. I know he will continue to be a great colleague in the classroom.”
