Katherine W. Phillips, the Paul Calello Professor of Leadership and Ethics, will take over as faculty director of Columbia Business School’s Behavioral Research Lab. Phillips is replacing Professor Daniel Ames, who recently completed his term at the helm.

Phillips joined the Columbia Business School faculty in fall 2011. She holds a PhD in organizational behavior from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Prior to coming to Columbia, Phillips was associate professor of management and organizations at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and also the co-director and founder of Northwestern’s Center on the Science of Diversity.

The Behavioral Research Lab is comprised of Columbia University faculty members, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and research assistants, as well as participants invited from various academic institutions to contribute to the lab’s research.

Researchers are actively involved in the investigation of human decision making, interaction, and behavior, studying everyday activities such as customers’ brand selection, impression formation, and the internal and external influences on individual and team decision making, which allows for contributions to the fields of psychology, sociology, and business.
