Columbia Business School faculty members met with some of the world’s leading strategy scholars to share ideas and research during the Second Annual Strategy Conference, hosted by the Cross-Disciplinary Area (CDA) in Competitive Strategy on Friday, December 2. The event featured numerous business and social science experts, including Columbia Business School faculty members Jerry Kim, assistant professor of management, and Bruce Kogut, the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Professor of Leadership and Ethics. Other speakers included Bryan Bollinger and Robert Seamans, both of New York University; Kenneth Gillingham of Yale University; Rahul Kapoor of the University of Pennsylvania; and Feng Zhu of the University of Southern California.

"The conference creates a community of scholars in the wider New York region who bring different perspectives to the study and teaching of strategy," said Kogut, cochair of the Competitive Strategy CDA. "This mixture is combustion for a tremendous energy and creativity that marks not only the conference, but also the interactions and new research partnerships that come out of this one-day event."

The Competitive Strategy CDA, launched in 2010, reflects Columbia Business School’s reputation as one of the world’s top centers for strategy scholarship and teaching. The CDA focuses on hiring tenured and tenure-track faculty members who will enhance the School’s ability to produce leading scholarship on strategy in economics, psychology, organizational sociology, and other social science disciplines. In addition to connecting these scholars to the larger academic community through conferences, the CDA also helps to fund and promote cutting-edge research, as well as to develop teaching materials and courses.
