On July 1, Professor Wei Jiang will assume the role of Vice Dean for Curriculum and Instruction at Columbia Business School. Jiang is the Arthur F. Burns Professor of Free and Competitive Enterprise and has received numerous awards for her teaching in the MBA, EMBA, and PhD programs. "I am pleased that Wei will continue to coordinate efforts to strengthen teaching quality and innovation in this role," said Dean Glenn Hubbard. "She will focus on strengthening connections for core course content; help divisional chairs highlight linkages across core and elective courses; serve as a teaching mentor; and spearhead the effort of the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence to support faculty teaching innovations."

Since 2014, Jiang has also served as director of the Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business, a role that will be assumed by Professor Amit Khandelwal on July 1. Jiang takes over the role of vice dean for curriculum and instruction from Mark Broadie, who is the Carson Family Professor of Business and an Academic Advisory Board Member for the Program for Financial Studies. "As faculty members, we all contribute to the school in different ways," Jiang says. "The appointment does not change my sense of duty toward the community, but I do feel a mixture of excitement and awe about the new and increased responsibility."

Her short-term goals, she says, are "to build on the foundation Professor Mark Brodie set up in his four years of tremendous work. I will work with the Samberg Institute, the divisions, and the faculty to strengthen within- and across-course content connections, to support new and junior faculty members to succeed in the classroom, and to nurture and support teaching innovations in both content and technology." In the long term, Jiang says, she hopes to continue developing the legacy of Columbia Business School’s curriculum as "the conduit for students to gain access and insights into the thought leadership of faculty and business leaders, and for both teachers and learners to bridge theory to practice."

"Please join me in thanking Mark for his outstanding contributions to the School," the dean added. "I’m confident that Wei’s exceptional accomplishments and the strength of her relationships with faculty members, students, and external constituents alike perfectly position her to build on Mark’s successes. She will help us keep pushing Columbia Business School forward as a center of thought leadership."
