The Private Equity Program recently launched a two-part video lecture with Valerie Purdie-Vaughns who came to speak at Deal Camp in 2015 and 2016. Speaking on the subject of diverse teams, and providing an experiential exercise for the students, Professor Purdie-Vaughns shows the academic research and ideas that make diverse teams an important value-proposition for PE Firms. These sessions were sponsored by KKR.

The Pershing Square Challenge was launched in 2008 by Bill Ackman, founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management LP.

Paolo Siconolfi, the Franklin Pitcher Johnson Jr. Professor of Finance and Economics, will take leadership of the Business School’s Doctoral Program effective July 1, 2017. Paolo received his PhD in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and joined the Business School as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 1988. His research has focused on general equilibrium theory, information theory, and dynamic models in monetary theory. Working with the PhD Faculty committee, Paolo will provide academic direction, coordination, and oversight for the programs. He will continue to ensure that the PhD program is rigorous while training future generations of scholars and teachers who, during their time with us, contribute to our intellectual community and the generation of new ideas and research.

Dean Glenn Hubbard has announced three new faculty appointments that will take effect on July 1: Charles Jones, the Robert W. Lear Professor of Finance and Economics, has been named senior vice dean; Shiva Rajgopal, the Roy Bernard Kester and T.W. Byrnes Professor of Accounting and Auditing, will become vice dean for research; and Paolo Siconolfi, the Franklin Pitcher Johnson Jr. Professor of Finance and Economics, will lead the School's Doctoral Program.

But a groundbreaking series of new studies from Columbia Business School and William Paterson University suggests that women also take on more of couples’ “mental housework” – the remembering of daily errands and to-dos.

Steve's significant experience with, and expertise in, U.S. mortgage-backed securities and global fixed income investing will complement the strong and diverse skill set of our existing Board," said Gary Kain, MTGE's Chief Executive Officer, President and Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Abrahams also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Finance and Economics at the Columbia Business School.

According to a new study from Professor Silvia Bellezza of Columbia Business School, Americans increasingly perceive busy and overworked people as having high status.  The study has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research.

Do cuts in President Donald Trump’s proposed budget hurt women more than men? Advocates for women’s issues say yes.

Professors Eric Johnson and Elke Weber of the Center for Decision Sciences show how the way that tradeoffs between benefits and costs of budget cuts are presented can drastically impact people's opinions on public policy. More specifically, when tradeoffs are framed in terms of understandable, personal, and concrete numbers, people disagree less. 

Early detection is critical for improving treatment efficacy for those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and it’s often those closest to a child who notice the first signs. New research from Columbia Business School, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment at Mt. Sinai reveals that children who had older siblings or frequent interaction with grandparents were diagnosed earlier with ASD.

I-Care, which uses technology and medical data to match disabled senior citizens with local professional caregivers, was recognized by the Global Public Policy Network at its conference last month.

Frustrated with constraints imposed upon them by their employers during times of distress, many high-quality employees feel compelled to take the leap into entrepreneurship. This is most likely to happen when their companies face financial distress and become restrictive, says a study from Columbia Business School.
