This winter, three corporate gatherings were held, enabling Columbia Business School alumni to connect, hear from special guests, and talk with leaders from the School.

Effective July 1, 2014. Phillips will succeed Gita Johar, the Meyer Feldberg Professor of Business, whose three-year term as senior vice dean is ending.

On Thursday, March 6, 2014, the Heilbrunn Center hosted the 3rd Annual 'Women & Value Investing Luncheon' open to all students.  This event featured a panel of women in the investment management industry including Natalie Banas (Gallatin Capital LLC, Bandera Partners LLC), Melissa O'Connor '12 (Sanford C. Bernstein), and Kate Peachway '12 (BlueMountain Capital).  Current women in the Value Investing Program were also present to answer any questions about the program and offer advice to first-year students. 

On March 7, leaders from a variety of industries took part in the second annual Future of Learning Forum held by Columbia Business School Executive Education.

On February 14, 2014 investment professionals and members of the alumni community, including the Private Equity Program Advisory Board, came to campus to judge three teams that had been selected from submissions by the attendees of the 3rd Annual Deal Camp in Montauk.

For the third consecutive year, Columbia Business School placed in the top three at the invitation-only UNC Real Estate Development Challenge. Ashley McDonald ’15, Matthew Nunn ’14, Atif Z. Qadir ’14, and Daniel Wagman ’15 of team “Sustained Growth Properties” finished third at the competition on February 20-21 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Columbia Business School Alumni Club of New York (CBSACNY) has shown its support for the School with a $10,000 current-use fellowship. The award, which will be given to a second-year student, will acknowledge academic performance and leadership in the Columbia Business School community.

Nahum Melumad, the James L. Dohr Professor of Accounting and Business Law and a faculty member in the School’s Accounting Division for more than 20 years, died on January 15.

For the second year in a row, a Columbia Business School student was awarded the YM/WREA David Winoker Scholarship. Karl Chan ’15, an officer within the school’s Real Estate Association, was named the 2013-14 scholarship recipient, which recognizes personal and professional success and charitable or community service involvement.

Adjunct Professor Alicia Glen, who started the Social Impact Real Estate Investing and Development class, was tapped by incoming Mayor Bill de Blasio to be deputy mayor for housing and economic development.

Professor Enrique Arzac was awarded for his Advanced Corporate Finance course, while Bill Duggan was honored for Napoleon’s Glance.

At the panel “Uncharted Waters— Navigating Today’s Debt Markets,” experts from several major firms discussed debt investment products and opportunities.

The panel “Is the Sky the Limit? NYC Real Estate Pricing Keeps Climbing” discussed recent trends in the local real estate market and whether continued appreciation is likely.

The sixth annual Real Estate Symposium took place on December 9, 2013, at the Columbia University Club of New York, with 200 alumni representing classes from 1959 to 2013 in attendance. Sam Zell, chairman, Equity Group Investments, delivered the keynote address.

MBA students Sophie Ulrike Dorrer ’14, Jacob Feingold ’14, and Matthew Nunn ’14 won first place, the Alexander Bodini Foundation Prize, at the Real Estate Project Class Final Presentations Competition and Awards Dinner at Columbia Business School on December 10.
