Industry leaders from around the world joined Columbia Business School to celebrate its 27th Annual Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on May 5. The gala event, which was chaired by Arthur J. Samberg '67, chairman and CEO of Pequot Capital, attracted 1,000 prominent business figures, alumni and faculty members to salute achievement in business and government.

Frank Lichtenberg, the Courtney C. Brown Professor of Business, has won the 2003 Milken Institute Award for Distinguished Economic Research. Honoring the best research in the field of economics, the Milken Institute Award was presented to Professor Lichtenberg for his study of pharmaceutical research and its contribution to human longevity.

Four winners emerged at the final judging round of the National Social Venture Competition, held at Columbia Business School on Saturday, April 12. Winners and finalists shared prizes totaling $80,000.

A team of recent graduates of the EMBA-Global program won top honors at Innovation ’03, one of Europe’s premier venture competitions for high-technology startups. 

R. Glenn Hubbard, the Russell L. Carson Professor of Economics and Finance, returns to Columbia Business School after a two-year appointment in Washington as chairman of President George W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers.

The recent Social Enterprise Program alumni-student reception drew more than 200 participants from private, nonprofit and government sectors, providing a forum to explore trends in the industry. Event coordinators detailed the steady growth of the program and its commitment to developing business leaders who seek opportunities to add value beyond the bottom line.

Fourquet ’96, U.S. executive director of the Inter-American Development Bank, and Sallie Krawcheck ’92, chairman and CEO of Smith Barney, for the Global Leaders for Tomorrow program.
